About Ultimate Pinger
Ultimate Pinger is a Free Ping Engine, meant to communicate updates in web-content to the search engines and directories.
The communication of this nature, telling the search engines "Hey, see I have updated content on my site" is called ping. The search-engines then crawl (read) the content of your site and update their database subsequently. The problem, however, is that there are many search engines and directories, and pinging each one of them manually would no doubt be a tiresome endeavor in it self. That being said, pinging is an essential part of any and all SEO operations. Hence the existence of Ping Services, which allow you to ping your updates to many search-engines/directories from a single venue.
Ultimate Pinger is one such ping engine, and though, by no means is it the first one to provide the multi-ping facility (Pingomatic was the first), we believe Ultimate Pinger is the most complete solution (hence the name) as far as pinging goes.
If you are wondering whether you need bulk pinging service when you post only one or two posts a day or even less, be assured that you do. For instance, if you are using SocialMonkey (by the way, its cool) to create back-links, you must ping those pages containing the back-links, otherwise they will probably never be indexed by the search engines or directories, and subsequently the very purpose of having the back-links is lost.

What is Ping and Ping Server? and Why should I bother about it?
Ping is an XML-RPC (Remote Procedural Call in XML) based push mechanism by which a weblog (blog) or website notifies a ping server (of a Search Engine or Web Directory) that its content has been updated, and the crawler bots are then obliged to crawl and index the updated content subsequently. The idea was first introduced and implemented by Dave Winer to Weblogs.com. Today, most of the major blog search engines maintain ping servers.
All new content in the blog/website should be pinged to multiple ping servers in order for the content to earn attention from search engines or web directories, and in turn achieve a larger audience for the referred content.
Open ping servers, like that of Weblogs.com, let other web services subscribe to a list of blogs that have recently pinged them. Blog search engines can provide fresh results very quickly by re-indexing only the newly-updated blogs. However, unlike weblogs.com, all ping servers do not share their received ping data directly with other servers, thus, bloggers/webmasters have to ping a large number of individual servers to receive the desired publicity. To this end services such as Ping-o-matic, Pingler.com and of course Ultimate Pinger come to rescue, which ping multiple proprietary ping servers and remove the need to ping each service manually.
Can Ping harm my blog/site?
If done honestly, No.
However, the use of ping servers to direct attention has led to a rising trend in ping spam a.k.a. sping, which attempts to direct readers to web pages that bear no new content. Sooner than later, such attempts are being panelized by ping servers and/or search engines. As that may be, as of now, more than 50% of pings do not correspond to any significant new content. Infact, technorati, a foremost blog directory, abandoned their ping servers only because they found 90% of the ping requests were spings/spam. Some blog authoring tools (such as Wordpress) automatically ping one or more servers each time the blogger creates a new post or updates an old one, however, this is not without a cost. With such automatic ping advantage, if a blogger/webmaster modifies the webpage multiple times to merely correct spelling mistakes, each attempt to commit/publish the content results in a new ping which may earn the author a ban from ping servers/search engines.
In short, one must ping judiciously, and never twice for same content if you could resist the temptation.
Most of the times, you will find that all the ping servers are never pinged successfully. Thus, the unsuccessful pings must be reattempted. Although the referred re-pinging can be done with all the services, you will see that Ultimate Pinger makes it a worry-free-single-click affair!
How often do I ping my content?
Once and only once - upon publishing a new/updated material, and if the same does not get indexed within 3-7 days, once again with reluctance. If even after pinging twice your content is not indexed, it is possible that the crawler bots are not interested in your content. In any case, do not ping the same content more than twice, which may infuriate the crawler bots.
Can I ping my old content?
Of course you can - at least once, but if your content has been already crawled and indexed by search engines, there is no need to, unless you change/modify/update your content in a meaningful way, in which case, it would be new content then!
Is Ultimate Pinger better/superior than other services?
We would certainly like to think so. The matter of fact is no services is batter or worse than other. They are just different in what they are designed to do. Although all the ping services / ping engines essentially convey your ping requests to the ping servers, they are different in 'how' and 'how efficiently' they do it. We think Ultimate Pinger is the most efficient one. This is how...
1. There is considerable overlap in the ping servers all the services/engines ping, but Ultimate Pinger pings to most (if not all) working services. You will be surprised if you researched the ping server lists of all the services, that many (in most cases more than 50%) ping servers are defunct, i.e. they no longer accept pings. Don't believe us, go test!
2. We do not ping the dead/defunct Ping Servers (more than 130 in our list), which saves computing resources and energy on both client as well as servers. This in fact was our primary concern when we conceived the Ultimate Pinger. Apart from the apparent, Ultimate Pinger does a lot to this end under the hood, making it one of the most energy-efficient ping engines. If you share similar spirit, we invite you to come along!
3. Ultimate Pinger is one of the very few ping engines which allow you to ping multiple urls all at once to multiple services (actually, it is the very first ping engine that does it the way it should be, i.e. you choose which urls to ping to which services all at once).
4. Ultimate Pinger is a realtime ping engine in that it gets the job done in realtime, (and hopefully, our servers won't be overloaded, ever.)
5. With Ultimate Pinger, you can ping anonymously. This may change in future if we detect the abuse of our services so faithfully offered free of charge.
6. Ultimate Pinger automatically saves the failed pings, and you can reattempt the failed pings 10-20 min later with a single click, without the hassle of sifting the failures from successful attempts and without re-pinging all the urls again (which will be spam/sping), in turn saving you from the ban/penalty from the search engines.

So, How exactly I Ping with Ultimate Pinger?
Before you Ping anything, Study the interface carefully. Following is the List of all the parts that make the interface.
The first "Text Area" element is meant to receive the URLs of updated webpages, i.e. URLs to Ping.
The second "Text Area" element already contains the list of all the services we consider alive. Also notice the Links at bottom-right of this Text Area. You can modify this list of ping services if you want. Once you have modified the service list according to your preferences, you can save the list to your computer using the "Save" link. You can retrieve this saved list anytime by clicking the "My Services" Link. To clear the saved service list, delete all contents of this text area and click the "Save" Link. To retrieve the original "default" list of the ping services, just reload/refresh the Ultimate Pinger
The "Reset" Link will erase the information regarding failed pings from your computer.
The Blue Ping button is what you will press to start the Pinging process, and the button itself will act as a progress-bar to reflect the state of the process.
The results will be updated below the ping-button/progress-bar in realtime.
When the process is over, a list of failed pings will automatically be saved to your computer (as a cookie!), which you may re-ping later (within 3 days) with help of "RePing" link in a single click. You can use the rePing link as many times as you need, keeping interval of 10-20 min between successive rePings, especially if you are bulk pinging. Most ping servers are, more often than not, overloaded from ping requests at least once a day. Have some patience.
Feel free to explore the interface. That will indeed do no harm to you! The exploration will educate you on all you need to know to use Ultimate Pinger.
